What is an EICR?

EICR, or an Electrical Installation Condition Report, is produced after an electrician has inspected the internal wiring of a building. The wiring will be assessed against the requirements of the regulations current at the time of inspection, so if you have old wiring it might not be up to the same standards.

The electrician will note down in the report whether there are any recommendations to rectify damage, deterioration or defects. They will tell you whether any measures need to be taken to keep your home safe.

At the end of the EICR, the electrician will tell you how often you need to have the report done. Usually, in a domestic property the installation should be inspected at least every 10 years or when the owners change. In a commercial property and rented accommodation, the installation should be inspected every 5 years or when there is a change of occupancy.
