What is Fixed Appliance Testing (FAT)?
Fixed Appliance, or FAT testing, refers to the tests that electricians do on fixed appliances. Fixed appliances are electrical appliances that are connected to the electrical supply through a fused outlet. Fixed appliances include hand dryers, cookers and storage heaters.
FAT testing is often done in commercial buildings as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state that employers have a responsibility to provide their employees with safe electrical equipment to use. FAT testing makes it simple to adhere to these regulations as appliances are tested for safety regularly.
